IMDb — an Amazon subsidiary and an indispensable Los Angeles face book — let loose that it has completed a purchase of Box Office Mojo — a site that chronicles the day by day box office take of newly released movies. Back in July. Box Office Mojo is a 3-person company based out of Burbank, California, and has seen its traffic rise to 1 million unique visits a month since its founding in 1999 by movie analyst Brandon Gray.
In the past, Amazon has purchased various websites that catered to niche markets, such as DPreview.com, a London-based site that reviewed digital cameras and Seattle startup called Shelfari that ran an online community for book lovers.
