We are hearing reports, and by reports I mean tweets, that one of our fellow tech industry peeps is being screwed over by KIIS FM. Espree Devora participated in a contest held on KIIS Wednesday February 25th. The trip she was trying for was a 4 day 3 night trip to Australia with a seat on the inaugural flight of Virgin Australia Airline. Espree being a huge Richard Branson fan was delighted when she received this text announcing that she had won. The trip was scheduled for this Friday which just happens to be Espree’s birthday weekend. You couldn’t have planned a better birthday weekend for her. So imagine her surprise when she was contacted a few hours later by KIIS and told that they had experienced and error. Supposedly a computer glitch caused the text to go out to her phone. When Espree voiced her concern to them and stressed that Virgin does not treat its clientele with way, KIIS responded with this:

“This is the KIIS FM contest, we’re doing the contest, not VIRGIN”

Espree reached out to her network of friends on twitter to try and get the attention of Virgin or anyone at KIIS that could make this situation right.  Mike Prasad was able to get Virgin Americas attention with this tweet:

Hmm, the plot thickens.  Virgin was not even aware of this contest.  That doesn’t seem to add up. Apparently this is not the first time this has happened. Another twitter user Dain Kennison had a similar run in with the radio station. His wife won an all expenses paid trip for four to Orlando. She was given a phone number to call and the vacation they won turned out to be a time share promotion. They ended up paying for their airfare, even though KIIS was supposedly flying them first class. The station had booked them in a low class hotel which Dan and his wife also ended up paying for. Some all inclusive trip!
