Twitter To Put A Cap On Number Of Times Users Tweet Daily

We just heard from inside sources at Twitter that starting next week we will be seeing some drastic changes made to the way we are able to tweet. Twitter has been making a fair amount of upgrades to the service over the last few months, but this one will definitely have the biggest impact on users.

Just yesterday we saw the homepage take on a whole new look. They removed the thumbnail icons of people you are following a replaced them with the new search bar and list of trending topics. We have also recently seen the additions of the sidebar user education widget and the inclusion of mentions into our @replies.

Now Twitter has leaked that they will be limiting the amount of tweets that people can make in a single day. Tweets that are over the as-of -yet unspecified limit will go into a queue and begin to be released at midnight the next day. This change will help Twitter manage scalability issues when implementing new features. Those of you that Twitter non-stop are going to have a serious issue with this limitation.

If the service starts keeping a cue of tweets that are over limit and you tweet say 50 tweets over the limit, it could take days for us to see that Blip FM tweet about the Depeche Mode song you were listening to. We won’t know if you are actually at the gym at the moment or having a cupcake. Tweet streams could become completely unreliable and downright confusing. Do you think limiting the amount of tweets will make people think twice about what they share? Will tweets become more valuable or will people navigate towards the new Twitter, Facebook?
