While most of Los Angeles was fighting the traffic caused by Britney Spear’s Circus show at the Staple Center, actor Ashton Kutcher collected his millionth follower.
As of the writing of this piece, Kutcher (@aplusk) has 1,053,234 followers, with pwned CNN Breaking News (@CNNBRK) at 1,028,032. Twitter has broken a record—and it’s just beginning. Six hours ago, Oprah Winfrey (@Oprah) sent out her first tweet. She’s now tweeted a total of six times and accrued over 150,000 followers.
CNN reported on the milestones at Twitter (“a once-cultish site,” LOL), quoting Andrew Cherwenka, Huffington Post contributor and Trapeze.com developer: “A lot of people are saying this is going to be the death of Twitter, and I don’t understand that at all. It’s just another stage in Twitter’s acceleration.”
With all the changes happening at Twitter right now, and all the bugs that come with them, do you think the micro-blogging platform’s infrastructure will be able to support the mass influx of fans that the heavy celebrity presence is going to bring?
