The annual Entrepreneurs Conference at UCLA is the largest and highest-profile student-organized event. This year marks their 24th consecutive conference, which focuses its efforts on the “entrepreneurial road less traveled.” The full day of sessions and over 50 speakers that are lined up for this event are going to tackle how to explore entrepreneurial opportunities in the current economic situation.

This is a chance to network with some of today’s brightest entrepreneurs. We spoke with Gohar Galyan, an MBA student at UCLA that helped with the conference, to find out why she feels this conference is worth attending. She informed us that the conference is always well received, the previous years sessions drew a crowd of over 500 people, and the quality of the massive amount of speakers that are scheduled for this year is excellent. The keynote speakers are high level CEO’s and the panels will touch on everything from scaling a company, being an entrepreneur, and how journalism is merging with web.

One of the unique aspects of this conference is the fast pitch competition, which is open to anyone. Twelve ambitious entrepreneurs have already been selected for this year and will be given the chance to pitch their idea to a panel of judges. They will have 90 seconds to convince the panel that they should be included in the top three that will move on to the final round. The winner will receive $1,000, courtesy of Bloblive, and other non-cash award.

After the sessions, there will be a cocktail networking reception with an open bar serving wine and beer, giving you a chance to hand out that stack of business cards and make a few pitches of your own. Lalawag readers can get a $20 discount when making their ticket purchase on the web. Just enter the code “lalawag” (please note this offer will be available only until the morning of the conference). You can also buy tickets at the door.

“The annual Entrepreneurs Conference is the largest student-run event at UCLA Anderson that attracts professionals from all over Southern California. The panels cover a wide variety of topics, such as advertising and entertainment and clean tech. The conference gives attendees an opportunity to learn more about topics they care about, get exposed to issues they hadn’t previously considered and network with both professionals and students who are leaders in their respective fields.” -Philippe Lavertu, Co-Director UCLA Entrepreneurs Conference.
