Introducing TweetCrunch

Is Twitter Web 3.0? At this point we honestly can’t tell. Every day there are approximately ten million blog posts written about the oversharing micro-blogging service. It’s online popularity is second only to lolcats. I get it, Community! Conversations! Little Blue Birds! It’s all so revolutionary. No wonder bloggers are in love with Twitter.

So when TechCrunch hired MG Siegler, we already anticipated an uptick of Twitter related posts. After all, MG has written some of the all-time best Twitter posts. Oh, and let’s not forget the headlines, so funny you can’t resist the click-through.  However it turns out some of the TechCrunch commenters haven’t been exactly welcoming of MG’s work. He actually had to post a bit of troll deflection recently titled ‘Our Last Post About Twitter (Today – Maybe)‘ where he says:

Stop and think for a moment about any one startup that has had such an impact on other startups. There aren’t many, and there really hasn’t been one for a while. I suppose you could throw Facebook in there, and before that obviously Google. But really, there aren’t too many companies in general that are changing the ways others do things, the way Twitter is right now. And that’s why I think it’s worth writing about so often.

It’s not just about Twitter, the product, it’s also about Twitter, the idea. And Twitter, the catalyst of change. Twitter has shaken shit up in the industry. And it’s exciting as hell when a company does that, because the subsequent chaos almost always breeds cool new things. And “cool new things” is what technology is and always has been about.

You know what? He’s right. Twitter is the only exciting thing these days.  If TechCrunch wants to run 10 Twitter stories a day then so be it. In fact we decided to mock up some content changes for the ol’ Crunch. Please let us know what you think by sending @lalawag a Twitter message. We do all our communications through @ messages these days.
