Is wine the key ingredient for business? “It is for me!” Robyn Cohen jokingly replied recently through e-mail. We chatted about Girls in Tech and their upcoming incubator series, “Close Any Deal Over a Glass of Wine.”
Why not mix libations with business? As long as you keep it under control, there is no reason not to enjoy something that is easy for people to talk about and connect over. The host of this event, Julie Brosterman, has successfully blended her enjoyment of wine into her business responsibilities of networking and financing. She will be hosting an evening at her home where she will share with you her success and also a bit of her wine.
Robyn gave us a few minutes of her time to answer the questions below and talk about the upcoming event. She also gives us little insight into Girls in Tech and what the organization is all about. Please note: this organization is aimed at promoting women but it is definitely open to men. How else we will be able to see them worship us?
Interview
There seem to be misconceptions about GIT, many think it’s a girls-only event and men are not welcome. Is this right? Why do you think this message is being distorted? What is GIT about?
Our focus is the bring women together to engage, educate and empower them with the necessary tools and information. They could be entrepreneurs starting a business, they could be in the interactive department of a company and want to add to their skill-set, or just have a passion for tech and want to learn more about it. We don’t shut out men, we want them to support us. They are more than welcome to come to our events. It’s just important that women have a place, an organization that is focusing on their career success.
What is this event about? What do you hope attendees will take away from it?
We have an Incubator series that focuses on female entrepreneurs and their business. Our event “Close Any Deal Over a Glass Of Wine” highlights Julie Brosterman, Founder/CEO of Women & Wine. I hope attendees enjoy the experience of this event. Having it at a house is a little different than having it at an office space, bar, or lounge. I want people to learn how to negotiate specific business initiatives, but also learn more about wine, because we are also going to do a wine tasting. I think there are a few things that really bring people together and wine is definitely one of them.
Who will be there and what will be discussed?
The crowd is going to be women from all different industries (PR, Marketing, Fashion, Beauty, Tech, etc). We also have some men coming, again from different industries (Media, Entertainment, etc.) . We are focusing on talking about how Julie started her current business, Women & Wine and she is going to give us great advice about networking, entertaining, some of the tools you need to start and/or build a business and how you can tie it in with wine.
