Unless you have been completely off-line for the past few days, then you have seen the ridiculous amounts of tweets coming in about spymaster. In the past, this would have been a mild annoyance, similar to the never ending tweets that people do for conferences you don’t care about. But now with the integration of Twitter into so many different sites, it’s almost impossible to escape the barrage of tweets.
Spymaster, an “intelligence” game that centers around the idea of using your Twitter following to assassinate other players, is quickly being picked up by users all over Twitter and some of them are calling the creators out for spam.
The game is designed to earn you more money if you keep all of your notifications on, turning almost every move you make in the game into a tweet. Then there are the DM’s, designed to keep you updated on what is going on in the game and to invite other players to join. From the spymaster site you can also select from your twitter followers, spies that you want to invite, another DM.
Spymaster is highly addicting to anyone that is even remotely inclined to gaming. I mean, who wouldn’t enjoy virtually attacking someone from across the interwebz? (we suggest going after SF blogger @parislemon)
It’s also very ineffective way for geeky boys that drool over hot twitter avatars, to flirt with women on the web. @AVFlox learned this first hand when boys, one right after the other, tried to “assassinate” her. We compared it to the equivalent of a boy throwing a rock at a girl on the playground.
For those of you are that are just getting started, and a few of you that are already playing, here are a few suggestions to help your game play and your overall spammyness.
Caution: you may be doing it wrong
- Turn all of the updates off. Yes, you will get less monies, but your followers will in turn keep from hunting you down and burning you alive (or unfollowing you).
- Try investing your hard earned cash in weapons. The higher your defenses and attack systems are the harder you will be to kill.
- Avoid attacking the spymasters in your spy ring, they serve to make your overall attack stronger.
- Team up with other players from your spy ring. A triple attack on one player should yield better results for the group of you.
- If you can’t beat them, join them. Sometimes the best move to make is to align yourself with the strongest players.
If you have decided not to take on the spymaster assassination game, either because you’re afraid I’ll pwn your ass or that you will get so addicted that you will forget to eat, you can opt out of those pesky DM invites here.
