The marketing start-up Culture Jam has embraced the idea of tweets as currency. Today they launched a unique application that enables fans to get an early download of “Fix Your Face Vol.2 – Coachella ’09″ just for tweeting a specific message.
This campaign should be successful in driving traffic to the site of Travis Barker and DJ AM, which you have to visit to enter your tweet. With both stars having a large following, it’s no surprise that the number of tweets is in the millions already.
I wonder how many artists you will see using similar techniques in the near future: they can’t count on Myspace forever.
To get yours, visit travisdjam.com and click “post my tweet.” It looks like this:
Press Release:
NEW TRV$DJAM MIXTAPE ONLY COSTS ONE TWEET
Los Angeles, CA – Superstar drummer Travis Barker and world-renowned turntablist DJ-AM are breaking new ground with the release of their second mixtape, “Fix Your Face Vol. 2 – Coachella ‘09”. As social media enthusiasts, the two musicians have chosen to offer Twitter users an early download of their album for an unconventional price—one “tweet”.
Over the past year, the innovative duo, collectively known as TRV$DJAM, has pioneered a new style of live performance by pairing DJ-AM’s crowd-pleasing mixes with Barker’s rowdy, live drumming. Now they’ll reinvent the way their projects are distributed to fans using a unique application built by Culture Jam Labs, a unit of stealth Santa Monica start-up Culture Jam.
