Twitter: Not Just a Link Farm

Do you Twitter search? Ever use it late at night and start searching things that you are doing? This thought occurred to me late last night and I decided to use the search to see if there was anyone else out there doing the same thing as I was at that particular moment.

I happened to be watching Demolition Man. Tons of results, easy enough right? I mean it is on HBO and plenty of people have cable. Next up, TrueBlood, which I had been watching earlier in the night. Again, hundreds of people tweeting about the show.

This time I thought of something a bit more obscure. I have a facsination with murder-mystery books and happen to have an addiction to a series involving vampires. I only know three other people who read the Anita Blake Series, so I was supprised by all of the tweets that showed up with people talking about Laurell K. Hamilton’s latest book.

Ok, how about something silly. Well I happened to be eating Cheez-It’s. Results? Tons of people happily enjoying cheez-it’s and tweeting about it.

I guess it just goes to show that at any given moment, no matter how alone you feel, there are probably hundreds of people around the world doing the exact same thing, at the exact same time as you. The fact that Twitter enables you to see it, is pretty amazing.

If you’re feeling really low you can always find someone that’s having just as shitty of a time as you are. Just search for:

deppressed
want to kill myself
slitting my wrists

Happy searching!
