SMCLA (Social Media Club Los Angeles) will be hosted tonight at the Mahalo offices in Santa Monica. They have invited a writer from the LA Times, an editor from LAist, and a partner from Real Poiltech to discuss ”Citizen Journalism: Social Media’s Affect on How News is Reported and Consumed”.
This panel sounds very interesting to me, and happens to be moderated by one of our favorite LA tech reporters, Alexia Tsotsis. You probably won’t see lalawag there though, the last time we checked we aren’t allowed in the building. Feel free to tell us how it went in the comments.
About the Panel
More and more people are turning to social media as the first place they look for breaking news. Pictures and videos from newsworthy events make it to the web via mobile phones and hand held devices and first hand accounts are micro blogged in 140 characters or less before any traditional news outlet is able to cover the story. What does this mean for: a.) the traditional media and b.) the public at-large who may find themselves in a position to report the next big story…
