Bloggers Just Wanna Have Fu-un

Wednesday night was the first ever Blogger Prom, where a few hundred people gathered to celebrate the blogging community and the people that make it so special. The evening took place on the rooftop of the Andaz West Hollywood Hotel and was definitely a night to remember.

Esther and Caroline recruited some of the most well-known LA bloggers to be on their prom committee, not only for their star power but the connections that came along with it. Going off of the idea that “Bloggers are the new Rockstars” the prom committee set out to get top sponsors and giveaways for the event. Everything from the drinks to the food and prizes was 100% gratis and very delicious.

The committee was very strict on the dress code. Wanting to make sure that everyone attending would get into the spirit of prom, they put out this message on their blog:

Now we can’t express how much we want you blogger prom attendees to take this “prom” theme seriously. We want you to go all out with your outfit. We want you to bedazzle, we want you to accessorize, we want you to shock and awe. We want you to wear something that you would never wear anywhere else. If you don’t show up en costume, sorry, but you’re not getting in.

We heard that Caroline was very serious about making sure people stuck to the guidelines and was downstairs checking everyone that came in during the beginning of the night to ensure they were dressed appropriately. The place was packed with looks from the eighties, which added to the overall happy feel of the night.

I’d have to say that this prom was actually better than my real prom. Being a child of the 80′s, I was right at home with the great music that DJ WMDeez was spinning. When Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls just want to have fun” came on and the dance floor exploded, I knew that everyone else was having just as great of a time as I was.

The evening was full of raffle prizes and giveaways. Nina Bargiel and Will Betheboy were the proud recipients of a gift basket full of liqueur and and gift certificate to the Edison. I tried to sweet talk them into giving it to me but my powers of persuasion alas ultimately failed. Lucky for me AV Flox also won, and I was able to indulge in some of the gourmet chocolates she took home from Charles Chocolates.

Each of us received a gift bag to take home that was full of great samples and gift certificates. Check out some of my favorite items:

  • Sampler of Charles Chocolates
  • Viper Room Free Pass
  • Pop Champagne & Dessert Bar Gift Certificate
  • Pinky Vodka that is blended with over 10 botanicals so it tastes “pink”
  • Addmission for 2 for The Comedy Store
  • 30% off at Live! On Sunset
  • Flyer for a free Pinkberry Fruit Parfait (never been–this might actually make me go)
  • Extinguisher sour candy (these were so good I ate the whole box after prom)

Special thanks to everyone on the Blogger Prom Committee that made this event possible. I can’t wait to go again next year.
