A tweet from Paul Carr, newest addition to the Techcrunch team, crossed my stream and alerted me to the fact that there is a trivia account on Twitter. More importantly he alerted me to the fact that @parislemon had not written about it yet. Seeing as they scoop us on just about everything, I thought I would take this opportunity to introduce you to it.

@triva is exactly what the name implies, every so often the account will tweet out a question. The first person to reply with the correct answer receives the most points, some for having the quickest answer and some for having the correct answer. Points are then distributed to others that answered correct but were not the first to tweet it. So as Paul points out in his post in the Telegraph, those that cheat and use a search engine to find the answer will lose time and therefore points.

There are different sponsors that have donated prizes that are given out at the end of each Game. Each Game consists of a round, whoever is at the top of the leaderboard at the end of the round is the winner. In the current trivia game there are first, second and third place prizes, but we are not sure if this is always the case.

I personally love a bit of trivia, but judging by the categories, there are sure to be quite a few that are way out of my league. I do happen to know quite a few men who would excel a the weird/odball category, Mr. Percival is FULL of useless knowledge.

Each Trivia question is associated with a specific category. We display the Category and the Point Value in each twitter post (of a new question) as well as on this site. So, for example, we have a trivia question about a movie and it is worth 250 points. The tweet would be formed as follows:

“Mov250: Movie trivia question here.”

‘Mov’ is the category, movies, and 250 is the point value. Everything after the colon (:) is the actual trivia question to answers.
