“On May 20th, 2009, Drew Olanoff was diagnosed with cancer. Ever since that day, Drew has blamed everything on his cancer. Losing his keys, misplacing his wallet, Twitter being slow, the Phillies losing, etc. Why? Because you have to beat up on Cancer to win…”
When you visit the site Blame Drew’s Cancer you’ll immediately see the message above. One mans approach to raising awareness about his battle with cancer and how anyone and everyone can get involved and make a difference. Drew’s main goal is to find companies that will donate money to the American Cancer Society and the Make a Wish Foundation. Their hope is that every tweet that has the hashtag #BlameDrewsCancer will get a dollar donated to one of the two organizations.
Recently Drew teamed up with Livestrong and starting at midnight on 9/9/09 they are hosting a 24 hour Blame-a-Thon with live bands and raffle prizes. Unfortunately unless you are in Philly you won’t be able to see the show live but thanks to Livestream you can watch it from the comfort of your home.
The event is to raise money and awareness for LiveStrong and just because you can’t go to the show doesn’t mean you can’t help out. There are three ways you can donate to the event.
1. Buy a ticket. All of the proceeds go directly to Livestrong.
2. Buy a raffle ticket. The raffle is electronic so you don’t have to attend to win.
3. If you are feeling extra nice you can make a donation directly to LiveStrong in Drew’s name.
See the complete band line up here, and make sure to #blamedrewscancer on Twitter for everything today. Help spread the word and fight cancer, one tweet at a time.
Follow them on Twitter at @drew, @blameathon, @livestrong.
I #BlameDrewsCancer for the busted pipe in my bathroom that is leaking 2 inches of water into the hall.
