The Twitter Conference kicked off today at the Skirball Center, and though I only made it for the last panel of the day, I was there for what could be referred to as a monmentus occasion. The aftetparty, hosted by Ad.ly, had a special unannounced guest. Pee Wee Herman. Yes the crazy wacky man in a grey suit that some of us loved as a child, showed up to say he was joining Twitter and did his very first tweet.
He was in and out of there in under 20 minutes but was definetly talked about afterwards at the party and all over Twitter. He created such a buzz that “peewee herman” became a trending topic. Jolie O’Dell, former LA resident, tweeted about Pee Wee’s live theatrical show coming up in November.
“OMFG! Peewee’s Playhouse, the live stage show, @ the Music Box on H-wood, starting in Nov. 2009. Oh please, please, someone take me!”
If only there was a man in Los Angeles worthy of such a date.
I can’t help but wonder if this is just good timing or a sneaky PR tactic to get followers to promote the new show? Either way it seems to be working. Last time I checked Paul was up to 11,000 followers in under 24 hours.
