One Year of lalawag

Yes it’s hard to believe, but we just passed our first year anniversary on lalawag. Yes one year ago we launched the first post and with it birthed this little rag.

I’d love to say we’ve achieved all our goals but really the point was not to have any. Instead I simply hoped to begin to tell the story of tech in Los Angeles. You see lala has always been a project of passion for me, one I’ve deeply enjoyed and hope you have too. It’s my own little jaded micro-view of tech and basically everything I’ve ever wanted in a tech blog.

A few months in I turned the reins over to my wife,  breaking my own rule of never doing business with friends or family. However since this isn’t much of a business we gave it a chance. Since then she has run the show (and we’ve come to minimal blows over it). Actually I look back on the occasional late night publishing struggles we go through with fond memories. Unlike most couples we seem to thrive during challenges and alway emerge stronger and with a good laugh or two. However even I sometimes forget to give her the proper recognition for what she has done here on lalawag. So please remember while I may have started things here, Laurie is the one who keeps it running.

I want to send out a big thanks to everyone who has supported us over the year. Really are too many to name, so I’m not going to try. Just know we greatly appreciate and notice each time you retweet us, send us a tip, or just say how much you like the site.

Enough with the mushy stuff, how about some stats?

In the last year…

  • 250,000 unique people have viewed 400,000 pages on lalawag.
  • we published over 400 posts, that means some days had more than one!
  • we received over 1700 blog comments.
  • we did not receive one single legal threat (amazing!).
  • our most popular post was LA Gets Dugg, Hammered, Screwed.
  • we generated approximately $3200 in advertising revenue.
  • we received approximately $12,000 worth of free conference and event tickets.
  • we had a wonderful time.
