NeighborGoods Goes National

Los Angeles startup NeighborGoods.net, which we reported on at launch, is going national! What started out as a local concept where you could share, sell or buy items from others in LA is now expanding their reach to anyone across the country. Timing couldn’t be better, considering the state of the economy today is still quite fragile. People are looking for bargains everywhere you turn, and now they can find them around every corner of their neighborhood.
NeighborGoods builds on the ideas behind sites like Craigslist and Freecycle, both of which I’ve used successfully in my own little corner of America. However, NeighborGoods goes one step beyond the basics of either of those sites by tracking transactions on the site itself, which adds a layer of security you won’t find elsewhere. In addition, it offers users the option to borrow or lend and even rent items to other users. It’s a win-win for everyone involved.

“When we share our stuff, we get so much more for our money, we reduce waste, and we strengthen our local communities. Not only does NeighborGoods provide a way to save a little bit of money – it also connects neighbors in meaningful ways making for happier, healthier neighborhoods.” – NeighborGoods Founder & CEO, Micki Krimmel

To date, NeighborGoods.com has seen over $750,000 worth of inventory added to the network and received attention in popular press such as O Magazine, TechCrunch, GigaOm and Apartment Therapy, among others (such as lalawag!). Check out the details of how it works in the video below and don’t forget to visit the NeighborGoods.net website and register for this awesome service. I just did.
Congratulations to Micki and her team for this move forward. LA startups FTW!!!
