Digg announced they were redesigning the site back in May when they invited some users to participate in the beta test of the new features. Today, this redesign has finally been rolled out to the public so we can all check it out. Here’s what you need to know about the new features on Digg.

At first glance, it looks like it hasn’t changed that much. However, you will notice the new default home page when you log in is the My News tab. This new section allows you to customize the stories that you see, from main news sources to your friends on Digg. More importantly, Digg now easily connects to your friends Twitter, Facebook, and Google accounts to integrate them into your My News tab. The more popular a story is with your friends, the better chance it has of appearing on the page, with the top stories from your friends in the right-hand sidebar, below the advertising block. For those of you who are fans of the old school Digg layout, never fear. The basics from the old home page layout are still accessible from the Top News tab.

Another interesting feature that Digg has is the integration with publishers to auto submit content from their site. By setting up a publisher account, websites can submit their content via RSS feed. This means that users no longer have to submit content manually, if the website is using this new feature. Manual submissions are still around for sites that aren’t using a publisher account, but they are much simpler. Images and descriptions are automatically added to the submission. This is great, as it will save time when submitting your favorite content.
