Petlovers represent an enormous number of people. According to a recent study done by the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association, there are 77.5 million dogs owned in the United States alone, that is almost 1/3 of the population. Pets are already on the internet: Foopets (a virtual world for dog lovers),dogbook (facebook’s facebook for dogs application) along with many others, its no surprise that the pet pampering businesses are now getting involved even more directly with the use of social media.
Here in LA, one of the most unique uses we’ve seen is The Club Beverly Hills. “The Club” is probably not what you’re thinking; it isn’t like the the Beach Club or the Jonathan Club on PCH, it is, however, a country club: A country club for dogs, that is.
The Club, run by mother/daughter pair, Marjorie and Ali Weiner, cares for some of the most well known dogs in the greater Los Angeles area! Their celebrity clientele come to drop their dogs off for some truly luxurious R and R. Located on Almont and Melrose in the midst of Beverly Hills, these doggies each have their own villas, closets and a choice of doggie massage, doggie yoga, baths and more! There is even a doggie treadmill on the premises.
They have a facebook page where they report on the daily activities of the doggies, doggie culture, doggies on the red carpet and more! Ali who runs their social media says, “Dogs are such a huge part of the culture here in Los Angeles and as everything is moving online, we use twitter and facebook to keep them involved in people’s lives at the office place as well as at home”. They have a twitter where adoreable twitpics of dogs are regularly posted for owners to tune in and see what their dogs are up to, this is one twitter I recommend following for your daily puppy intake! Ali says “Our clients love it, everyone wants their dog to be a star”.
What you HAVE to see is their twitpic stream for some fun digital doggies!
