When it comes to domestic grosses, the year 2010 has not been the best for movies. Failing to live up to the results of “The Dark Knight” in 2008 and “Avatar” in 2009, movies in 2010 failed to attract as many moviegoers. Still, it’s worth taking a look at the five highest grossing films of 2010.
5) Inception
Christopher Nolan’s journey into the world of dreams is the most innovative film I have seen in years. I watched this movie awe-struck at how Nolan was able to bring his complex ideas of dreams within dreams within dreams to the silver screen and make millions at the same time.
4) The Twilight Saga: Eclipse
I have never seen any of the “Twilight” films, but I gathered from the reviews of both professional journalists and those on Team Edward and Team Jacob that “Eclipse” was the best film in the series yet.
3) Iron Man 2
Although failing to live up to my expectations and to the sheer awesomeness of the first “Iron Man,” I still enjoyed Robert Downey’s charming Tony Stark getting into more trouble and getting out of it in style. However, the movie did run a bit long and left me wondering how long it would take Tony Stark to kiss his wonderful Pepper Potts.
2) Alice in Wonderland
I watched Tim Burton’s adaptation of “Alice” on DVD rather than theaters, which may have affected the way I felt relatively unimpressed by the films effects. However, even the great graphics did not compensate for the storyline that failed to engage me from the beginning.
1) Toy Story 3
Not only have I grown up with the “Toy Story” films but this film had a special significance to myself and those in my graduating class because, like Andy, I left for college this past summer. Although I did not leave living, breathing toys at home, I no less thought this movie was incredibly well made. How often is the third movie in a series the best one? I applaud the people behind “Toy Story 3″ for not only making the best movie of the year but also giving me the perfect send off to college.
