Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 disappoints LG executive

Looks like somebody disappointed somebody.  Reports are that Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 platform has managed to fail to meet initial manufacturer expectations.  James Choi, marketing strategy and planning team director of LG Electronics, expressed disappointment in an interview with Pocket-Lint, saying that the Windows Phone OS failed to meet expectations when it was first launched, “From an industry perspective we had a high expectation, but from a consumer point of view the visibility is less than we expected,” he said.

Choi however added,”We strongly feel that it has a strong potential even though the first push wasn’t what everyone expected,” and expressed hope that once Microsoft releases some updates and does more to attract consumers to its platform, then sales will start to pick up.  The executive declined to offer any sort of sales data, however. LG Electronics has been building initial Windows Phone 7 devices along with Samsung, Dell and HTC.

Microsoft executives have claimed some 1.5 million Windows Phone 7 devices had been sold to retailers by manufacturers in the platforms’ first few weeks of release during this month’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The company however, and their partner manufacturers, have remained suspiciously tight-lipped about sales figures since the launch.
