As you may have already noticed, Google recently launched a new collaboration with many of the largest art museums in the world called the Google Art Project. The intent is to showcase artwork through a virtual museum experience.  Over 1,000 pieces of art can be viewed in high-resolution, and you can literally tour galleries in over 15 museums.  It’s fun to browse, and using built-in info panels, you can read more about the artwork and watch related YouTube videos.  We highly recommend checking it out.

For now the following museums are included in the project:

  • Freer Gallery of Art, Smithsonian, Washington DC – USA
  • The Frick Collection, NYC – USA
  • The Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC – USA
  • MoMA, The Museum of Modern Art, NYC – USA
  • Museo Reina Sofia, Madrid – Spain
  • National Gallery, London – UK
  • Palace of Versailles – France
  • Tate Britain, London – UK
  • Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam – The Netherlands
  • For a complete list of museums go here.
