Last week, Twiistup held their annual entrepreneurial startup conference/competition/event/party out on the westside at the Skirball Cultural Center. It sounds like much fun was had along with something called “learning.”

We wanted to make sure to especially congratulate the winner of the Showoffs startup competition, Chromatik!

From the press release:

Chromatik was named the winner among 10 companies selected to present before the judges and an audience of more than 300 technology industry leaders from across Southern California and around the world. More than 100 companies competed for a chance to present at the conference. The 10 Showoff finalists were selected based on their technology, business model, management team, competitive environment and other key criteria for success.

Chromatik is an online service dedicated to providing quality musical education to people all over the world in a convenient and easy manner, similar to Rosetta Stone for language education. They have content from music teachers at Juilliard, UCLA, and the Royal Conservatory of Music among others. While the service is still in the alpha phase, you can sign up to be notified when you can start using the service here.

As someone who was subjected to countless music lessons as a kid, I can attest to the value of knowing the language of music. It’s certainly enriched my life and hopefully Chromatik will open the doors for people who didn’t get the same opportunities I did.

Chromatik CEO Matt Sandler:

“There was a great group of Showoff companies this year, and we’re honored to have been recognized. We’re still early in our development, but it’s really exciting that the judges and attendees saw promise in what we’re doing. There’s incredible opportunity in the future of music education, and Twiistup 8 was a great forum for us to showcase our technology.”
