Kinect Confirmed As Fastest-Selling Consumer Electronics Device, Sells faster than iPhone, iPad

Guinness World Records, the global authorit on record breaking, has confirmed that the Kinect for the Xbox 360 is the Fastest-Selling Consumer Electronics Device in the world. Kinect has sold through an average of 133,333 units per day, for a total of 8 million units in its first 60 days on sale from November 4, 2010 to January 3, 2011 – outselling both the iPhone and the iPad for the equivalent periods after launch.

According to Gaz Deaves, Editor of Guinness World Records 2011 Gamer’s Edition: “The sales figures here speak for themselves.  We can confirm that no other consumer electronics device sold faster within a 60-day time span, an incredible achievement considering the strength of the sector.”  The new record will be included in the next Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition, which recognises record breaking achievement in the world of videogames.

Sony to add cloud-based game saves to PS3

Sony has announced that PlayStation 3 owners with a PlayStation Plus subscription will soon gain access to online storage for game saves.  The service debuts tomorrow, and will allow players to back up game save data to a cloud-based storage system.  Subscribers can save up to 150 MB of game data and a maximum of 1,000 data files for each PlayStation Network account.  The service is only available to PS3 owners with a PlayStation Plus subscription, which costs $49.99 annually or $17.99 for a three-month plan, and will be available through a system software update arriving Thursday.

White iPhone 4 coming in April?

In the news: According to Concord Securities Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the elusive white iPhone 4 is going into production this March, for an April 2011 release. The white iPhone 4 was originally scheduled to launch alongside the black iPhone 4 in June 2010 but was delayed due to white paint issues.

Rumors are that this white iPhone 4 will be the GSM version (AT&T and other global carriers) and there is no release time frame for the CDMA (Verizon) version.  Apple has previously confirmed the white iPhone 4 for a Spring launch and is also expected to launch an all new iPhone – “iPhone 5 – in June or July.
