So you’re an aspiring screenwriter looking for your big “break,” eh? Well get in line, buddy, you and everyone else in this town we live in.

Fortunately for you, Break Media and Scripped.com are hosting a contest to get your script noticed ahead of all the other schmucks who aren’t as good at the internet as you are. It’s called “Break’s Big Break” and for the next six weeks, you can submit your 3-4 page online video script to the Scripped.com contest page here. The grand prize winner will have their script produced by the Break Media Creative Lab and promoted with the full force of the Break online machine. Five other finalists will get a nice $500 check as well.

How will the winners be determined? By a panel of judges including Ed Burns and the writer of Die Hard, Steven De Souza. Keep that in mind if you try to do a catchphrase in your script. If it ain’t better than “Yippee-ki-yay motherfucker!” then you may want to rethink it.

Our friends at Break have been kind enough to pass along some tips for you if you need a little guidance with your submission:

  • Break Media’s audience is primarily guys 18-34, it should work for that group.
  • Songs are not necessary but parodies when done well can be great in the viral space.
  • Famous people will probably not star in your video. While Break does have relationships with celebs, your idea shouldn’t be contingent on their involvement.
  • Limit the number of locations your videos use, this is online, people, we’ve gotta have a nimble production schedule for maximum efficiency.
  • Pop culture parodies can work, but if it’s only funny for the week after the event you’re parodying you might want to try something else, this thing won’t be made for a couple of months and by then people may not know what you’re making fun of.
  • Scripts should be no more than three or four pages

For more details check out the contest page.

Good luck!
