Control An AR Drone With Your Kinect [video]

Wow, what’s this we have here? A Kinect hack not done by our friends at the USC ICT? How can this be! (Hint: probably because it’s a little rough around the edges)

Looks like Tom Zickel and his family engineering business have cobbled up a “solution” that allows one to control a Parrot AR Drone utilizing their arms. I use the term “solution” in quotes because, quite frankly, I can’t see how this hack is a) “useful” or b) “cool.” It just looks like people are waving their arms about in an arbitrary and awkward manner while the drone moves around haphazardly.

Still, I suppose some might find it cool to be able to “control” real objects with your hands while Joe Satriani plays guitar so here you go:
