- Time Magazine Strikes a deal with Apple to make iPad editions free for Sports Illustrated, Time, and Fortune Magazine Subscribers – It’s the right price and I’m glad Time is doing this, but is it that big of a victory over Apple? Bloomberg offers the same benefit for their print subscribers as well. It’s fairly safe to say that bundling is something that Apple is comfortable with because the publishers aren’t making any more money off the digital versions. They’re just giving people more reasons to buy iPads. It’ll be interesting to see whether this changes the onerous 70/30 digital-only subscription split that has publishers miffed.
- Sony Online Entertainment shutdown after another attack steals 12,700 credit cards – Sony originally said that SOE (the division that operates their massively multiplayer online games) was unaffected by the PlayStation Network attacks, but SOE’s portal is now down. These guys cannot catch a break. Although one has to wonder why it’s been so easy to breach their systems while other companies have remained relatively secure…
- Twitter confirms acqusition of TweetDeck for $40-$50 million – We reported on this a couple weeks ago, but it looks official now.
- Apple fixes location tracking “bug” with iOS 4.3.3 – Boy Genius Report’s sources say “two weeks, possibly sooner” for the release of iOS 4.3.3. It’s pretty clear that they aren’t messing around with their promises to rectify the “scandal.” That, and I’m sure it’s not that big of a code-change for the software. Still, with all the bug-testing that has to be done, a two week turnaround is very impressive.
