Don’t let anyone guilt you into not sharing your day on Twitter because what may seem like innocuous happenings in your area at first could turn out to be a raid on the most wanted terrorist in the world.
Sohaib Athar‘s (@ReallyVirtual) Twitter profile says he is “An IT consultant taking a break from the rat-race by hiding in the mountains with his laptops.” It’s a good thing for the rest of us that Sohaib happened to be a savvy English speaking Twitterer “hiding” in Abbottabad, Pakistan, because he offers a fascinating viewpoint on what went down during the bin Laden operation. What turned out to be a humdrum day broken up by a rare helicopter sighting turned into, well, I’ll let this Tweet sum it up:
Uh oh, now I’m the guy who liveblogged the Osama raid without knowing it.
Mr. Athar is being a good sport about his newfound internet celebrity-status despite being inundated with phone calls and emails:
I apologize for reporting the operation ‘unwittingly/unknowingly’ – had I known about it, I would have tweeted about it ‘wittingly’ I swear.
His follower count has skyrocketed at almost Charlie Sheen-like rates going from a modest 3,000 or so this morning to over 66,000 at the time of this posting.
Early this morning (US Time), Sohaib went back to “reporting” by posting a video of bin Laden’s compound as taken by a friend:
The Washington Post compiled some of Sohaib’s relevant Tweets into a nice Storify story:
