A lot of news updates in the tech world today so let’s get right to it:
- Spotify announces software support for iOS/iPods and download service - I’m surprised Apple’s letting Spotify essentially circumvent the iTunes client and store to get at users. Not only that, Spotify has one upped iTunes with the ability to wirelessly sync music playlists to Apple devices! We’ll see if it lasts, but it’s a nice bonus for people in countries who can actually use Spotify. Me? I’m trying to keep a pokerface until I can actually use Spotify in the US.
- AT&T representative says Apple told them “that they do not plan to release the iPhone in the June to July timeframe” – Normally, customer service reps are not the most trustworthy source of information, but this particular piece of information shocks no one and there’s no reason to believe that it’s not true. Looks like we’re headed for a September/fall release for the iPhone 5.
- Apple releases iOS 4.3.3 to fix “location tracking bug” – Wow, Apple really wasn’t messing around when they said that they would fix the location tracking issue “soon.” It’s taken just seven days since their announcement to release a software update for it to be released. If you’re paranoid about your phone and computer having a database of your general locations, you’ll want to upgrade as soon as you get to your computer. (Although some people actually want to have a database of their location saved.)
- Sony responds to congressional letter inquiring about PlayStation Network attack – The only new thing we’ve learned is that there’s evidence implicating Anonymous as part of the attack via a file planted on Sony Online Entertainment servers called “Anonymous” with the words “We are Legion.” It’s contrary to the group’s denial of involvement, but then again, it’s not like Anonymous can tell its members how to act.
- Google renames its “Search” group internally to “Knowledge” – Whatever helps them sleep better at night, I suppose.
