- Sony Music signs licensing deal with Apple – Apple got EMI just a couple of days before and Warner Music a couple weeks before that. It’s only a matter of time before Universal falls in too. Having all of the major labels on board will let Apple do some more interesting things with a cloud music service other than just act as a digital locker — let’s hope they do so.
- Verizon CFO Fran Shammo confirms iPhone 5 availability on Verizon at the same time as AT&T – Verizon’s also getting rid of unlimited data plans as well. It’ll also be a global phone, further bringing the Verizon offering up to par with the AT&T iPhone. It’d be nice if the phone potentially could work with both services.
- Sony tells game developers and publishers that Playstation Store will return May 24 – Sony plans on pushing all the content that was supposed to have gone out over the last 5 weeks over the course of the next couple weeks after the store goes back up. It sucks for the game developers because of the lost sales potential, but there’s nothing much they can do other than wait for Sony to get their content up. You can bet that they’re not happy about it, though.
- Microsoft is giving away free Xbox 360s with $699+ PC purchases to students – When you think about it, the lower end Xbox 360 model is about the same price as an iPod touch was when Apple did its student sales promotions. Still, it sounds a lot more impressive, especially for kids entering college. Although I’m sure overprotective parents everywhere are shaking their heads in dismay.
