At the Social Media Club Pool 2.0 event in Austin Texas, I had the pleasure of being introduced to Sarah Townsend from Social Vibe. Having just finished watching her tear up the dance floor with Francisco Dao in a cowboy hat and pop gun, I wasn’t that surprised to find out that she was from Los Angeles. I did find it strange that I had yet to see her out at the events or other mixers (must remedy this quickly). We got to talking about Girls In Tech and how she wanted to help out with the organization. I gave her the obligatory business card, though my lalawag card is not what you would call typical, and requested hers. Sarah asked for my phone and then proceeded to text her Twitter name to 50500. Within a few minutes I received a response with her name and all of her contact info. I was amazed! How did you do that I asked? She then told me about Contxts.
Contxts, the site that asks “So you want to be elite?”, is still in alpha testing but seems to work very well in its early stages. You sign up for an account and add as little or as much information that you want. You then have two options you can use to get your information to the contact. By texting from their phone your username, or by texting the contacts phone number from your phone and entering 50500. Then voila! You too can amaze your friends and business associates. Think of all of the times you ran out of business cards and had to find another way to get your info quickly to someone. Sure you can text it yourself but that takes time and sometimes you only have a few seconds with that person.
I’m very eager to start using this service, if you are currently a subscriber please share your thoughts in the comments. I’m still going to use traditional business cards but for certain scenarios I think using Contxts would be the ideal way to share my contact information. It worked well for Sarah, she did end up on lalawag.
